CBD is not risk-free. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration identifies possible liver injury, drug interactions, drowsiness, gastrointestinal effects, and other risks and unknowns. The FDA has approved one prescription drug containing purified CBD for named seizure disorders. That approval does not apply to other marketed CBD products or uses.
Unexpected Reactions and Emergencies
If someone may have used too much cannabis or a mislabeled cannabinoid product, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 or seek emergency care when there is immediate danger. Keep the package and tell responders what was taken if known.
CBDCafe.org cannot diagnose a reaction. Product labels may be incomplete or inaccurate, and products sold as hemp or CBD may contain THC or other unexpected ingredients.
Drug-Testing Warning
CBDCafe.org cannot predict an individual drug-test result. A “THC-free” label, broad-spectrum claim, isolate claim, or non-detect lab result is not a guarantee. If a test affects employment, probation, sport, medical care, or benefits, treat any cannabinoid product as a possible risk.
Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, Children, and Pets
FDA and CDC advise against CBD use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Keep CBD and THC products in child-resistant containers and out of children’s reach. FDA has not approved CBD for any use in animals. Questions about a child, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or an animal belong with a qualified clinician, poison center, or veterinarian.
