CBD product quality is not a star rating. It is a set of checkable questions about labels, batch reports, warning letters, seller claims, adverse events, product problems, and the evidence a buyer can preserve when something does not add up.

Browse CBD Product Passports
CBD Product Passports are batch-specific documentation records that compare seller claims with COAs, contaminant panels, public regulatory records, and missing evidence without turning the result into a star rating or safety score. The current library contains 20 Documentation Reviews across oils, gummies, and topicals. You can also compare two to four published Product Passports side by side.

See the 20-Brand COA and Label Audit

Check FDA Warning Letters
The FDA Cannabis-Derived Product Warning-Letter Index organizes agency warning letters so readers can find firms, dates, product areas, states, and the original FDA record without treating an agency letter as a universal verdict on every product a company sells.
Report a CBD Product Problem
If a product caused a reaction, appears mislabeled, makes deceptive claims, lacks the promised batch evidence, or creates a refund or billing dispute, use How to Report a CBD Product Problem to preserve records and identify the appropriate reporting route.

What Counts as CBD Product-Quality Evidence?
| Evidence | What it can show | What it cannot prove by itself |
|---|---|---|
| Product label | Seller claims, ingredients, package size, warnings, batch identity | That the contents match every claim |
| Batch COA | Laboratory results for the tested sample and panels shown | Safety for every person, every unit, or every untested substance |
| FDA warning letter | The agency’s dated concerns about a named firm, product, or claim | That every current product from that firm has the same issue |
| Receipt and seller terms | Purchase date, price, subscription, refund, and cancellation evidence | Product composition or medical causation |
| Consumer complaint or adverse-event report | A documented report that a problem occurred or was suspected | Proof that the product caused the event |
Use the CBD Buying Checklist before purchase and the product-problem guide when an issue needs to be documented after purchase.
CBD Product Quality FAQ
Does “third-party tested” mean a CBD product passed every safety test?
No. The phrase does not tell you which laboratory performed the work, which batch was tested, which panels were run, or what the results showed. Open the full report and check those fields directly.
Does an FDA warning letter mean a company has been convicted of wrongdoing?
No. A warning letter states FDA’s position and requests corrective action. It is not the same as a court judgment, recall, seizure, injunction, or permanent verdict.
What should I save if a CBD product seems mislabeled?
Keep the package, lot number, receipt, full COA, screenshots of the seller’s claims, and any written communication with the seller. Describe the mismatch factually before assigning intent.
What does “Unknown” mean in a CBDCafe product check?
It means the evidence needed to answer that field was not available or not clear enough to support a pass or concern. Unknown is not a passing result.
Pass, Concern and Unknown
CBDCafe.org keeps evidence categories separate. A matching batch number can pass while a contaminant panel remains unknown. A warning letter can document an FDA concern without proving every current product from a firm has the same issue. Missing evidence stays unknown instead of quietly becoming a pass.
